DOT- North Carolina Rail System

As North Carolina’s leaders look for better ways to manage the state’s growth, stakeholders at the local, state and national level are looking to rail to help relieve some of the traffic congestion and emissions issues on our roads. An infusion of federal recovery money has sparked a renewed vigor to North Carolina’s improvement of railroad tracks, to its development of expanded passenger and freight systems and to the possibility of light rail in urban communities with heavy commuter traffic.
